Camp Resources

The following list of topics provides access to numerous articles/videos that have been categorized according to their area of "best fit." Some may be repeated under more than one category. Each topic area also provides an overview of that particular topic.

If you find an article or video you'd like to suggest be included below or you find something categorized incorrectly, please contact me.

Blogs and Wikis

A blog is short for "web log" and is a website maintained by someone who provides regular commentaries relative to the topic being discussed. In the classroom, blogs may be useful for brainstorming activities or to simply generate discussion. Blogs may also include graphics or video. Some blogs may be a personal diary. Blogs typically provide a place for viewers to provide comments.

A wiki is a website that provides access to numerous other websites; it may be a collection of multimedia resources. A wiki is a collaborative space and is useful for class assignments when students are asked to collaborate on a particular project. Wikipedia is probably the best example of a collaborative web space. Students can create class notes, living book reports, provide access to a wealth of resources.

Classroom Response Systems (Clickers)

Classroom response systems or clickers have been used increasingly in education to obtain immediate student feedback. Slides integrated into PowerPoint give the instructor the ability to obtain immediate student feedback during or at the conclusion of a lecture. Classroom Response Systems can be integrated with Learning Management Systems (LMS) to obtain student results from "clicker" quizzes and integrate these scores with the gradebook in the LMS.

Websites like PollAnywhere provide the advantages of clicker technology through the use of a cell phone.

Kahoot.it and Socrative have become very popular on-line polling systems.

Twitter

Twitter is a micro-blog. Twitter allows you to stay connected with colleagues, family and friends with short 140 character (or less) "tweets." Twitter is used to inform your friends and community what you are doing, share resources and websites of interest. In class Twitter can be used with a hashtag (#) followed by a topic of your choice (for example #COMP150BK) as a part of the tweet. This enables you to search for that hashtag and find all the posts that have been made related to your class. Twitter would be useful for students to share their muddiest point, highlight of the class or questions they may have. It can be used to carry classroom conversation outside of the class.
